Nate Says:

This section of the trail is a hard winding downhill into what we call the extended section of the trail. This is where the men and women are separated from the boys and girls. Without this section, UHH would be just like every other trail out there--easy. This downhill, like the other entrance/exit sends you blasting down an off camber rock garden while hitting a switchback. Just as hard is to go up these hills, as there is only 1 path that requires you to hit in just the right spot with just the right speed. Anything else and you are walking your bike.

This part of the trail which leads down into the extended section can be tricky. I remember on one specific occasion I was riding through and for some reason or another my front tire slipped on the big root before the downhill (the one I hop over in the video) and I crashed onto my left shoulder dislocating it. What pain, the numbing sensation that runs up your arm... The lesson is to never take this section lightly. I pulling weight off your front end, or lifting up your tire completley before hitting this root. As for the subsequent downhill I've found that sticking to the left hand edge (while heading down) is the best path. When climbing, you have to play a zig zag game and even then its very tough. The UH trail presents three of the most technical climbs I've ever experienced and all are on the extended section.
