The trail head to the UH trail is from a distance basically invisible. It rests upon the top of a grassy knoll right above the baseball and softball fields. There is an old red sign partially covered in vegitation that is nailed to a tall tree which warns potential hikers that this is Mountain Bike land and reminds bikers to wear helmets. The trail head actually has two entrances to the trail; perhaps a remnant from the days when races where held there. I've spent a lot of time here, sitting and thinking, or talking about the great loop we just rode around the trail. On a clear day you get a beautiful view of the coastline and a nice look over the campus. On a rainy day you can watch the clouds slowly float through as a chorus of water droplets play a tune on the thick green undergrowth.
Nate and I have many stories related to this section of the trail, be it rolling down the knoll (I'm still partially dizzy), or trying to spy on kids sitting there at night. I remember on one night I was riding by myself and I saw that a group of kids had brought a projector to the trailhead and were watching "The Village" projected against a sponsor sign on the back fence of the softball field. I proceeded to stomp, break sticks and make gutteral noises for a few minutes in the woods behind them all to my pleasure and their fright. Good times!
